MATH LAB VISIT AT SARVODAYA KANYAVIDYALAYA, NARINA VIHAR ON 13 JULY 2024 BY DAMT MEMBERSย
Mathematics is not just a subject, but a symphony of logic and creativity, and the visit to the math lab installed by MATH ED LABS at Sarvodya Bal Vidyalaya, First Shift, Naraina Vihar, Delhi, was an incredibly enriching experience. On Saturday, July 13, 2024, members of the Delhi Association of Mathematics Teachers (DAMT) visited the mathematics lab, where the team from MathEdLabs showcased an array of board games and activity tools designed for grades VI-VIII students. The visit saw the enthusiastic participation of 18 DAMT members, eager to explore innovative teaching practices and exchange ideas. The lab tour provided a comprehensive overview of how interactive learning brings mathematics to life, speaking the language of logic and creativity through the dialect of fun.
Playful, interactive games designed for math play corner provide a unique opportunity to explore mathematical concepts in a tangible and engaging way. By fostering a culture of sharing and continuous learning, we can collectively enhance the educational experience and develop more effective teaching strategies. The insights gained from math lab visit can be invaluable in creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Some key takeaways from today's experience are:
1. Ability to engage with mathematical concepts through physical manipulatives and interactive tools. This tactile approach can help students grasp abstract ideas more concretely.
2. The Math Play Corner can significantly enhance students' mathematical proficiency and establish a strong foundation in math skills.
3. Interactive resources boost student engagement, promoting enjoyment and motivation in the learning of mathematics.
4. The workbooks available were aligned with board games and mapped to curriculum concepts, enhancing students' learning experiences by providing supplementary practice and reinforcement.
5. The colourful and interesting infographics on the wall were welcoming and would add their own dose of motivation to the students.
6. โ The teachers can very effectively use some of these games to incorporate into the proceedings of their lesson plans either as an introduction or as a tool for better
understanding. Not only this, an innovative teacher can create new card activities and problems to be solved according to a few more maths topics and use the same boards.
7. The best things in today's mathematical meet are new and concrete innovations, which will help not only facilitators to teach, but also to students of primary and middle department to observe that mathematics is there everywhere.
8. Inclusivity and Accessibility: The diverse range of activities caters to different learning styles and abilities, ensuring that all students can participate and benefit from the Math Play Corner.
The collaborative learning venture today gave us all a deep insight into rethinking mathematics education, fostering a collaborative spirit among attendees, with many expressing their intention to implement the observed practices in their own schools.
The board games based on curriculum mapped learning outcomes exemplified the principles of effective mathematics education, where interactive tools and games seem to facilitate deeper understanding and improved retention. By leveraging the cognitive benefits of play-based learning, students shall surely develop a stronger foundation in mathematical concepts, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the subject. Through this innovative approach, we can empower students to become proficient problem-solvers, logical thinkers, and creative innovators, equipped to succeed in an increasingly complex and mathematically-driven world.
